Imagine

Imagine there’s no Heaven
It’s easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today

Imagine there’s no countries
It isn’t hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace

You may say that I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world

You may say that I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will live as one

-John Lennon

This song has been coming up for me a lot lately. My friend gifted me with The Glee Encore DVD and I love watching The Glee Cast along with the extras playing the kids from the Deaf school sign the song. It’s such a beautiful song. I want to learn the whole thing in ASL and maybe post a youtube video! :D

I am most familiar with the Corey Glover version from the Rhythm of The Game: 96 Olympic Games Album. When the album came out I had recently turned 18 and I had recently gotten married. I was working at The Warehouse Music Store and I would play Rhythm of The Game every day. One guy that I worked with, well..he actually worked in the video section, would complain when it got to Imagine because he didn’t like the way Corey sang it. His version is so full of passion and may not be the most pleasing to hear but is still my favorite because I feel a sense of surrendering to the lyrics. I feel a real need and desire for this. He made me imagine. Music helps me feel less alone. And this song in particular makes me feel connected to the best of humanity. I am a soul for PEACE and this song is like an anthem. Whoever loves and listens to it and believes it and lives it are like my close siblings.

I am listening to a version on Spotify that I’d never heard before. Meshell Ndegeocello’s version. Excellent. I’m happy.
